meeting of minds or unison

This poem has appeared in Granville.

it was eleven fifty five
and i knew what wouldn't let me sleep
ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
went a generator down the street

so i waited for the number ten
and hummed along heard but unseen
and you couldn't tell if only he sang
or when he was backed up by me

but every once in a while i'd pause
to quickly breathe in the morning air
and so we knew who'd go who'd stay
when i had to exhale inhale

and then my number ten arrived
i got on sat down slowly heard
again another humming song
that I now knew word for word

but in civility's embrace i saw my place
i took my place and without shedding
but a sound i sat i thought
i wrote i sang
