the april fool takes a day off

To Pat

the april fool takes a day off
buys a delicious wolf
lies on the grass
enjoying the small rips and tears
in the fabric of spacetime
and his pants

casually asking the passerby
how much for this buttonhole
is that smile on sale
the april fool drinks in
sanguine eye rhymes
thinking of breeding
in the cruelest month

the april fool thinks of the rain
that brings unwanted visitors
from the land of obtuse angles
and of complementary angles
that always add up
but almost to the boiling point

putting his teeth and some air
into his side pocket
saving them for a rainy day
the april fool dusts off his pants
puts on his face
and goes back to work
telling dyslexic komodo dragons
why the apple will change the world
