Elegy to My Brother

This poem appears in The Love of a Good Man.

For Evgeny K.
(1984–2000)

Hey there.
I know I haven't talked
to you much,

let alone thought of you.
Far away
in the deep sky

or high in the sea of my mind,
you are still there,
still here.

Hey, I'm sorry.
A death is a big thing
to live through.

I just want you to know
I'd loved you more than
just on account of blood.

Maybe our time had
simply run out.
I know you'd suffered.

And I missed you.
And I'm sorry.
